Homemade Bath Salts (DIY Relaxing Spa Soak)

This easy homemade bath salts recipe combines Epsom salt, Himalayan salt, and optional essential oils to create a relaxing DIY spa soak. Perfect for self-care, stress relief routines, or homemade gifts.

Ingredients
  

  • 3 cups Epsom salt (magnesium sulphate)
  • 1 cup coarse Himalayan salt
Optional
  • 20 drops Essential oils such as lavender, sweet orange or eucalyptus (for fragrance)
  • 1 tbsp Carrier oil such as sweet almond, jojoba, grapeseed, or apricot kernel oil (use with essential oils)
  • ¼ cup Dried flowers such as rose petals, lavender buds, chamomile, or calendula

Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring spoons
  • Spoon or spatula for mixing
  • Clean, dry glass jars or airtight containers for storage
  • Small bowls (optional, if separating batches for different scents)
  • Funnel (optional, helps transfer salts into jars neatly)

Method
 

  1. In a large bowl, mix essential oils with carrier oil (if using).
  2. Add Epsom salt and Himalayan salt and stir until well combined.
  3. Add dried flowers if using and gently mix through.
  4. Transfer to a clean, sealed glass jar.
  5. Store in a cool, dry place away from sunlight.
How to Use
  1. Add 1 cup of bath salts to warm running bath water
  2. Soak for 15–20 minutes
  3. Rinse or moisturise skin after use if desired

Notes

  • Avoid using irritating essential oils such as cinnamon, clove, oregano, or peppermint directly in bath products
  • Use only skin-safe, high-quality essential oils
  • Store away from moisture
  • Use within 3 months for best freshness
  • Optional ingredients (oils/flowers) are not required for effectiveness
