  • Cacao Powder – Cacao powder gives this slice its rich chocolate flavour while also providing antioxidants, magnesium, fibre, and essential minerals. Because cacao powder is less processed than cocoa powder, it retains more nutrients.
  • Coconut Sugar – Coconut sugar is a less refined alternative to regular sugar and contains small amounts of minerals like iron, potassium, calcium, and zinc. It adds a rich caramel-like sweetness to the slice.

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C/350°F and line a baking dish with baking paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the oat flour, spelt flour, desiccated coconut, coconut sugar, and cacao powder.
  3. Add the melted coconut oil and hot water, mixing until a slightly sticky mixture forms.
  4. Press the mixture firmly into the prepared baking dish and bake for 10–12 minutes, being careful not to overbake.
  5. While the base is baking, prepare the chocolate icing by mixing together the cacao powder, maple syrup, and melted coconut oil until smooth and glossy.

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C / 350°F and line a 28 x 18 cm baking dish.
  2. Mix oat flour, spelt flour, coconut, coconut sugar, and cacao in a bowl.
  3. Add melted coconut oil and hot water. Mix until slightly sticky.
  4. Press firmly into the baking dish.
  5. Bake for 10–12 minutes (do not overbake).
  6. Mix icing ingredients until smooth and glossy.
  7. Pour icing over warm base and spread evenly.
  8. Sprinkle with coconut (optional)
  9. Cool completely, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
  10. Slice once set.
